“The Lantern Keeper” — A Vietnamese Lantern Print from Hoi An, Vietnam
“The Lantern Keeper” is a Vietnamese lantern print made in the old town of Hoi An — a color photograph of a silk-lantern shop where hundreds of hand-painted lanterns glow in every colour above a single, still figure: an elderly shopkeeper seated quietly among her wares. The riot of light is overwhelming; she is the calm at the centre of it.
A Vietnamese Lantern Print from the Silk Shops of Hoi An
This Vietnamese lantern print was made inside one of the small shops that hand-paint and sell Hoi An’s famous silk lanterns. Shot on a Leica M11 digital rangefinder, it resolves the fine weave of the silk, the brushstrokes of the painted cherry blossom and birds, and the subtle gradations where one lantern’s glow meets the next. The camera holds clean detail from the brightest lit silk to the shadowed depths of the shop, giving the image an immersive, almost three-dimensional depth.
The Quiet Keeper Amid the Colour
Reds, golds, teals, magentas and cobalt blues climb from floor to ceiling in ribbed, onion and teardrop shapes. In the lower third of the frame the shopkeeper sits on a low stool in a purple blouse and bright yellow sandals, studying something in her hands — a small, human anchor that gives the wall of colour its scale and its heart. Look closely and the details reward you: a big red lantern stamped with a golden “13,” a cluster of woven rattan shades warming the upper right, a basket of folded silk offcuts at her feet, and the cool dusk-blue of the stone pavement that makes the colour burn all the brighter.
A Vivid Vietnamese Lantern Print for Any Space
Warm, luminous and full of life, this Vietnamese lantern print brings colour and a sense of travel to any room. It works as a bold statement piece in a living room or studio and as a warm reminder of Vietnam for anyone who has wandered the lantern-lit lanes of Hoi An after dark.

Print Details
- Listed sizes refer to the paper size, not the image. Each print is centered on the sheet with a 1 to 2 cm border for framing.
- Because image proportions vary, the picture may not fill the entire sheet — a square image, for example, fills the paper’s shorter side (minus the border), leaving an unprinted margin along the longer edges. This is intentional and preserves the full, uncropped composition.
- Custom Sizes Available Upon Request.
Shipping Information
- Worldwide shipping from Japan.
- Japan Post EMS Express Mail (FedEx available upon request).
